Short weeks fly by!

Hello! I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend last week for Presidents' Day! Please be aware that students do not have school tomorrow, 2-25-11. Teachers will be working at an in-service day. I am sure that boys and girls will enjoy the time off.

It was a short week, but we accomplished a great deal. I am glad to announce that we began working with word families today. Word families are words that share the same ending with a different beginning sound. Today we focused on "-ig" words. We read a mini-book called "A Pig" and practiced the words: big, pig, dig and wig. Please have your child share the book with you. I am impressed by how many students were able to read the book independently.

Next week is Dr. Seuss week in our class. To get ready for the fun to come, we used the Smart Board to go to seussville.com where we played "Fox in Socks." This was a fun way for the students to practice their rhyming skills.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Until next week,

Miss Stepaniak
